TIG
Gas tungsten arc welding also referred as TIG welding, is a welding process which involves joining of metals by generating heat with an arc. The heat is generated between the welding work surface and the non consumable tungsten metal. Normally a shielding gas is used during this process, mainly argon. In this welding process generally a tungsten alloy rod or pure tungsten is used, however sometimes it also involves multiple electrodes. The heated welding zone, the tungsten electrode and the molten metal all are protected with a shield from the surrounding atmosphere and a covered layered with an inert gas which is fed in via electrode holder. The filler gas can be added as and when required. The weld is done by applying the arc ensuring that the filler metal which is touching and the work surface both are melted and joined into one piece when the weld metal solidifies.
MIG
Metal inert gas welding or MIG welding, is a part of gas metal arc welding process (GMAW), which is also referred as metal active gas welding (MAG). In MIG welding, the welding process could be both semi-automatic and/ or automatic arc welding process. In this process a continuous consumable wire electrode is inserted through a welding gun, along with a shielding gas. The welding process gets the shield from externally supplied gas or gas mixture. Generally a constant voltage and direct current power source is used in MIG welding process; however alternating current and constant current systems are also used in this process. MIG welding process involves four major methods to transfer metal namely, Globular, Short-circuiting, Pulsed-spray and Spray. Each method has its own properties, advantages and limitations.
SAW
Submerged arc welding or submerged arc welded tubular or more commonly known as SAW welding is a welding process in which heat is generated between the bare metal electrode and the work surface. In this metal the arc is protected with a shield of granular fusible material. InSAW welding process the filler metal is obtained from the supplementary electrode and the welding rod.
